We’re pulling this one from an earlier episode with Kris Robertson, Sport Scientist for the Toronto Argonauts and Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Raptors 905. He was part of the coaching staff for the Argos’ 2017 Grey Cup win, and before that he played CFL football himself after being drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

In this clip he gets into something every sports parent deals with at some point: how do you actually tell the difference between a coach who’s tough and a coach who’s toxic. He doesn’t dance around it either, he compares it to an abusive relationship and talks about why parents often talk themselves into staying anyway because it’s convenient. Then he flips it and talks about what the best coaches he’s worked with actually have in common, which comes down to experience more than credentials on paper.
