Pulling this one from a conversation with movement expert Scott Fournier, who gets into something most people get wrong about their core.

Most of us think of the core as just the abs and low back. Scott expands that to include the diaphragm at the top and the pelvic floor at the bottom, more like a sealed canister than a six pack. He gets into why so many people with chronic low back pain have never actually learned to activate the TVA, the deep muscle that wraps around your midsection like a weight belt, and how that leads to just locking everything down and calling it “bracing” instead of actually building stability.

He also talks about why athletes intentionally move in an arched, extended position for performance (think a sprinter at full speed), and why that same pattern shows up in everyday people for a completely different, less helpful reason.
