Dr. Melissa Descoteaux received her Honours Bachelor of Science degree with a specialization in Biochemistry from the University of Ottawa. During this time, she participated in cellular cancer research with the research lab at the Children’s Hospital of Northern Ontario. It was this experience that sparked her interest in healthcare and led her to work for the Ottawa Integrative Cancer Centre. There she was introduced to Naturopathic Medicine and learned about its benefits in the prevention and management of many chronic diseases.
She attended the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, one of two accredited Naturopathic colleges in Canada. There she completed a four-year program focusing on modalities such as clinical nutrition, traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and herbal medicine and supplements, among others. Melissa is a registered Naturopathic Doctor, licensed to practise in Ontario. She is a member of the Canadian and the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors.
Melissa is passionate about empowering others to take control of their health. She emphasizes bringing things back to basics with treatments focused on clinical nutrition, lifestyle, and everyday steps aimed at helping her patients feel their best. She believes good health does not need to be a destination or goal, but something that is experienced every day. Melissa has a general practice, but tends to focus on conditions related to mood, sleep, and gastrointestinal issues. This includes autoimmune conditions, hormonal issues, and stress management.
In her spare time, Melissa enjoys photography and staying active. Growing up she was a competitive dancer, then transitioned to practising vinyasa yoga during university. She now enjoys running, and any group fitness classes she can find.
